Conducting Internship Program
The Conductor Internship program is a unique opportunity for those interested in further developing their conducting skills, to work with the Edmonton Youth Orchestra Association’s two orchestras (Intermediate and Senior) under the tutelage of the EYOs longstanding Music Director and Conductor, Mr. Michael Massey.
This season we welcome conducting interns, Yitian Fan (Nov 2022-Feb 2023) and Sarah Rossi (March-May 2023).

Yitian is a 21-year-old fourth year BMus/BEd student at the University of Alberta, majoring in Bass Trombone. At the age of 8, he started his musical training on the violin with Mary and Tom Johnson. He continues to play as well as enjoying a thriving, private teaching studio in his hometown, Edmonton. His love for the trombone began in 7th grade Band - the only instrument that could make funny noises and race-car sounds. His teachers on the Bass Trombone included Alden Lowrey and Tyler Cairns. In the future, he would like to teach and conduct band at the Junior High or High School level as well as continuing to play both the trombone and the violin. As well as music, Yitian enjoys playing and coaching basketball and would like to continue to coach basketball when he becomes a teacher.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Sarah Rossi is a clarinetist and conductor based in Edmonton. In 2021, Sarah received a Bachelor of Music at the University of Calgary and is currently studying a Master of Music in Wind band conducting at the University of Alberta under the supervision of Dr. Angela Schroeder. She has performed with several ensembles including the University of Calgary Wind ensemble, the Calgary Stampede Showband, the University of Alberta Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and the World Youth Wind Orchestra. Sarah has performed in several countries including the Netherlands, Belgium, United States, and most recently in the Czech Republic. She looks forward to making meaningful music with the Edmonton Youth Orchestra this year.
