Auditions are held annually for violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion and harp.

Due to COVID-19 changes have been made to the audition process

for the 2020-2021 season.

Auditions will not take place in-person but through the submission of an audio or video recording. 

To apply for membership & audition:

  • Applicants should register for an audition through our online booking system.  Those who signed up for an audition spot prior to these changes to the audition process do not need to re-register - your booking is still in the system: 

Instructions for your YouTube upload:

  • Sign up for a YouTube account or sign into your existing account.

  • Follow the instructions on YouTube to start uploading your video.

  • After uploading your video make sure you complete the following three steps:

    • Enter your name as the title on your YouTube video upload screen

    • Change the “privacy settings” to Unlisted – do NOT set to Private or Public. 

    • Test your video to make sure it works before sending us the link. 

    • Copy and paste the URL (also known as the link or web-address) for your audition video into an email addressed to .  


What EYO will do with your audio/video:

  • Once we receive your audio/video files or the URL for your video, we will test the beginning of your recording to make sure it works and confirm with you by email.  If you do not get this email, please contact us by phone (780-569-5290) to confirm that we have received your email.

  • If we find a technical problem with your audio/video you will be contacted to resend prior to the May 31st deadline, so ideally, best to submit at least a few days prior to the deadline.

  • If you are sending via a YouTube link, please keep your video available on YouTube until you have received the results from your audition.

The dates and times of these bookings are no longer relevant. By signing up for one of these spots you are just letting us know of your intention to audition for the 2020-2021 season. 

  • Record a short piece with contrasting parts (2 to 5 minutes in length).

  • Do not use piano accompaniment.

  • No editing of the recording. The audition should be recorded as one uninterrupted audio or video clip. 

  • There is no need to stop the recording for general background noise, such as a doorbell, unless it is so loud that it affects the sound quality of the piece.

  • Send your recording to . Please have your name in the title of the recording.  If your video recording is too large to be sent via email upload your video to YouTube (instructions below) and send the link to your video to

  • If this is your first time auditioning for the Edmonton Youth Orchestra, please also fill out and submit a Membership Form with your audio or video recording.   

  • For those applying for a Scholarship Audition:  Please also submit the appropriate scholarship application form(s) with your recording. Forms and scholarship information also available here. 

  • Submit your recording by May 31, 2020.

  • Audition results will be sent out via email by the end of June. For those who are successful, the annual non-refundable membership fee of $200 is payable at the first rehearsal in September.
